About

The early years...

Romantica has been a family owned and run company for 28 years having been started by a family who had a strong belief that honesty, integrity and value could be incorperated with the talent of designer Sally Waddington to produce wedding dresses of destinction. The company started with Sally as designer and factory manager with her husband Mike as Sales Director, for at that time the UK and 20 machinists in a small factory in the heart of the Devon countryside.

Recent times...

The company quickly expanded over the years as the designs evolved and 20 years ago we moved to larger premises and started to send our designs to China for manufacturing, but continued to make silk dresses in the new factory. Their son Kelvin joined the company 19 years ago and is now managing director.

More Recent times

In 2001, the company bursting at the seams had a purpose built extension added to their premises which was opened by Princess Anne who commented on the fact that Romantica had evolved into one of the largest wedding dress companies in Europe, yet had still been able to retain its famile owned and run status. At this time Jennifer Bolt joined the company as a designer and has since become the latest edition to the family business, having married Kelvin in 2010.

In 2010 the decision was taken that the extended factory was nolonger big enough and a new premises was found to hold Romanticas ever increasing business. The company had by this time appointed James their son as Media Director and the company were able to establish a plan for the business to continue from strength to strength under their very firm ideals to create a strong family business with Mike and Sally at the head and Kelvin making a very strong and competent Managing director supported by his wife and brother.
